Summer
Camp at Zenger Farm |
Zenger Farm, located in Portland's historic Lent's
neighborhood, is offering a series of summer camps connecting
school-age kids with the food they eat.
Zenger Farm is a one-of-a-kind working urban farm
in Southeast Portland promoting sustainable food
systems, environmental stewardship and local
community development.
Each week-long camp will provide kids with a unique
opportunity to get their hands dirty working in the
Kids' Garden and helping our farmer tend her fields.
Campers will pick snacks from heirloom fruit trees and
harvest vegetables for lunch. And at the end of the
week, families will be invited to join their child for
a farmhouse lunch and see first-hand what they've learned
throughout the week.
Zenger Farm welcomes up to 15 kids from the greater
Portland area to make up each weekly session. Camp days
will run from 9 am to 2 pm, and a nutritious snack and
lunch will be provided everyday. Boys and girls, ages
6-8, are invited to attend the week of July 17th through
July 21st. Boys, ages 9-12, are invited to attend the
week of July 31st through August 4th. And girls, ages
9-12, are invited to attend the week of August 7th through
August 11th. The cost of a weeklong session is $200.

Cleveland
Community Field Project |
The Cleveland Community Field Project, an ambitious
community-led effort to replace crumbling outdoor facilities
at Cleveland High School, received great news recently.
The Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund (MCMF) is generously
supporting the project with a $150,000 challenge grant.
The foundation will match dollar for dollar every $1,000
to $5,000 donation received from now until July 4, 2006.
Your help is needed to connect with families, neighbors
and businesses that can support the project at this
level. To make a donation, please go to
Cleveland Community Field Project - Donate.
Fun events are planned to make this challenge grant
campaign a success. The next event is a private screening
of the new Robert Altman movie, "A Prairie Home
Companion" on Sunday, June 4th at the Hollywood
Theater on Sandy Boulevard. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Refreshments
provided. Movie starts at 7 pm. Tickets $20. Advance
purchase required.
And a second piece of good news: the project received
a big boost from the City of Portland on May 17th. The
City Council decided to support a one-time funding request
of $150,000.
The City recognizes the value of the field to the community
and the request fit with Portland Parks & Recreations
"Parks 2020 Vision" Plan.
Thanks to the City Council for supporting this project
that is important to every neighbor, parent and student
is Portland and especially in Southeast.

here - drop off your stuff at the Richmond Neighborhood

of Ladd's Addition Gardens and best of all - try the Lemongrass
Martini at Vindalho. Read on for all the news.

THE HUNT WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH
Rain and mud were hardly deterrents for the annual Ladd's
Addition Neighborhood Egghunt. On April 15th children of
all ages gathered at the Shattuc/Raitt home to prepare for
the annual egghunt in Ladd Circle. Families brought one
dozen eggs per child which were hidden high and low in the
circle. Neighbor Dave Kaplan once again paraded the Easter
Bunny in his Nash Metropolitan. Per tradition, the under
five crowd was spotted a head start with the hunt, while
the older children waited eagerly curbside for their "ready,
set, go!" An estimated 30 families participated in the event
which will be repeated the day before Easter next year...Mark
your calendar!
